A Look Below Lolo Creek Watershed

A look below the surface in

the Lolo Creek watershed

Working with Montana Tech’s Department of Geophysics

The Lolo watershed project received a pulse of energetic help from Montana Tech’s Department of Geophysics fieldcamp in 2016.

Eleven geology students joined department staff helping to gather information about the rock units below the surface.

Students were out on Mormon Creek Road and Lewis and Clark Road on May 16-18, and then again on May 23-25, collecting data on private land.

Knowing the depth of the underlying bedrock and related thickness of the aquifer is critical to understanding groundwater and surface water flow in the area.  Tech’s data will help researchers in the watershed studying groundwater and surface behavior.
